1. STRONG WINDS COULD GROUND MACY’S PARADE BALLOONS: Gusty winds may force Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade organizers to remove several of the biggest balloons from the lineup for safety concerns. New York Times: “After a Cat in the Hat balloon hit a lamp post at West 72nd Street and Central Park West in 1997, knocking a portion down and injuring four spectators, an investigation led to city guidelines that stipulate maximum balloon sizes and wind speeds. If the wind blows at 23 m.p.h. or more, and gusts reach 34 m.p.h., SpongeBob and the biggest of his inflatable brethren will be grounded. The decision on floating the big balloons will be made by several agencies, based on weather conditions Thanksgiving morning.” http://nyti.ms/1dAyRx6
2. HOW TO MAKE MEETINGS BETTER: Even if you’ve lined up a great panel and have the perfect venue, there are still plenty of details to consider to make your meeting a success. PR Newser offers tips to keep things moving smoothly, such as: “Skip reading long speaker bios on stage, and leave the details to the event website or handouts. Given short audience attention spans, first impressions count the most.” See the full list of 10 tips here: http://bit.ly/1jFz937
3. TWO TURKEYS COMPETE FOR PRESIDENTIAL PARDON: Even the traditional pardoning of the National Thanksgiving Turkey is incorporating social media: the public can vote for the fowl named Popcorn and Caramel. Each has its own hashtag, and people can share their choices on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. President Obama will announce his choice this afternoon. NBC Washington: “Each bird has a profile on Whitehouse.gov/turkey that includes recordings of their gobbles, stats about weight and ‘favorite songs’ to help voters choose which bird they think is the most pardon-worthy. … While voters are encouraged to cast their votes, the White House website claims the tradition is ‘all gravy’ and that both turkeys will live out their lives at Morven Park's Turkey Hill in Leesburg, Va.” http://bit.ly/1hgumIL
