1. E3 VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE SOARS: While more than 70,000 people are expected to attend the the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week in Los Angeles, new data from Google and YoutTube shows that even more will be tuning in to watch live streams of game press conferences and other virtual content from the show. VentureBeat: “This means it’s important for video game brands to deliver the entertainment and information that the virtual attendees want. The data verifies what everybody intuitively knows about marketing games and consoles during the industry’s biggest tradeshow: You have to fight for the eyeballs that are looking for the information at exactly the right time.” http://bit.ly/1nf79ru
2. WORLD CUP BANS VUVUZELAS: The signature sound from the 2010 World Cup was the constant buzzing of the vuvuzela horn. They won’t be welcome at this year’s tournament in Brazil. FIFA has banned the plastic trumpets—along with tablets and laptop computers to prevent unauthorized images from being disseminated. International Business Times: “However, they haven’t banned cell phones. … Spectators will be able to easily tweet, Facebook and otherwise disseminate all sorts of images from World Cup matches, even those that FIFA would not necessarily want to have everybody on the earth see. But at least they will do so without the constant din of vuvuzelas around them.” http://bit.ly/1hBaHW5
3. GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL'S WI-FI SOLUTION: Providing reliable Wi-Fi at massive events is one of the biggest logistical challenges for any planner. This year’s Glastonbury Festival, the world’s biggest music and arts festival with 180,000 festivalgoers, will see several upgrades from technology partner EE to improve service. The festival will have a 4G network on site as well as individual gadgets such as a 4G in-car Wi-Fi network and portable mini-charger. Ad Age: “Hannah Matthews, the group marketing director of London agency Karmarama, has been to Glastonbury in a professional capacity every year for the last five years. She said, ‘I’m personally thrilled about this. Keeping in touch with friends and colleagues is usually a nightmare—Glastonbury is like a city, and it deserves its own 4G network.’” http://bit.ly/1owU6kB
