1. EXCLUSIVE CONFERENCE ON LOOKOUT FOR DRONES: At the Allen & Company media conference this week in Sun Valley, Idaho, event security is keeping an eye out for a new threat: drones. While using the flying devices for commercial purposes is illegal, it’s not unlikely that they could be deployed at the exclusive retreat for media moguls. Bloomberg: “Event staff are watching the skies for unmanned aerial vehicles that could photograph, harass or harm attendees at the annual gathering of business executives. … Reporters and photographers are here behind the velvet ropes trying to get a glimpse of—or conversation with—the billionaires. It's the security company's job to prevent the press or other event crashers from getting in by land or air.” http://bloom.bg/1mI65ie
2. UPSCALE BAR SERVES PERFUME-INSPIRED COCKTAILS: The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Berlin opened a perfume-inspired cocktail bar last month called Fragrances, offering 15 cocktails that correspond to different perfumes. Yahoo Food: “Here’s how it works: Patrons walk over to a display that highlights each cocktail and sniff the perfume that’s matched with the drink of their choice. The scent’s aromatic profile is similar to the cocktail’s, [bar manager Arnd] Heissen said, and will help the patron make her choice. … Other drinks on the menu are inspired by scents from Salvatore Ferragamo, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, and others. But according to Heissen, no sponsorship deals went down between the companies and the Ritz-Carlton, and the hotel does not sell any of the fragrances. ‘It’s more about the experience and not to sell the perfumes,’ Heissen said.” http://yhoo.it/1k8EVvh
3. SEE CHANEL’S COUTURE SHOW SETS: Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is underway, with the luxury brands presenting collections in imaginative environments. Chanel’s show sets traditionally present a strong point of view. The New York Times: “Chanel is known for building over-the-top stage sets whose sense of drama rivals, and in some cases eclipses, the clothes. At the house’s fall/winter 2014 couture presentation yesterday at the Grand Palais … minimalist, intimate-feeling rooms at either end of the space were each adorned with a gold oval baroque mirror sporting the trademark interlocking-C logo, placed over a digital fireplace.” http://nyti.ms/1om2q4V
