October 30, 2015: New York Comic Con Founder Starts Event for YouTube Stars, International C.E.S. Pushes for Las Vegas Convention Center Upgrades, Tips for Booking Food Trucks at Events

1. NEW YORK COMIC CON FOUNDER STARTS EVENT FOR YOUTUBE STARS: Stream Con, a digital content and online video convention featuring YouTube stars such as Grace Helbig, GloZell, and iJustine, begins today in New York. Event producer Greg Topalian, founder of New York Comic Con and now president of LeftField Media, said it makes sense to have an East Coast answer to the increasingly popular VidCon event in Los Angeles. He name-checked brands such as Pepsi, AmericanExpress, Nascar, and Ikea, which are all expected to attend the event, as well as agencies. Adweek: “I couldn't believe that New York City didn't have an event that was a 'con' really dedicated to the YouTube, Vine, Snapchat space. We knew the fan demand was there, but the piece that got really exciting was realizing the business behind it. The ad dollars are flowing towards digital. There are certainly plenty of conferences that talk about the digital revolution and social influencers. We felt like there was an opportunity to combine that type of content but also in a fan-friendly environment.” http://bit.ly/1Sc93Yn

2. INTERNATIONAL C.E.S. PUSHES FOR LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER UPGRADES: In an opinion piece, Consumer Electronics Association president and C.E.O. Gary Shapiro endorses a plan to expand the Las Vegas Convention Center so his organization’s mega show, International C.E.S., can continue to expand. Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Las Vegas is the convention capital of the world, and it is in our best interest to host CES here. It is also in the best interest of the city to make sure that shows such as ours continue to call Las Vegas home. Trade shows in Las Vegas are a win-win — organizations like mine benefit from the wealth of amenities the city has to offer, and the city benefits by adding more jobs, more visitors and more revenue every year.” http://bit.ly/1GONDiK

3. TIPS FOR BOOKING FOOD TRUCKS AT EVENTS: Thinking about hiring a food truck for your next event? Factors such as the size of your group, city licenses, and backup plans if the truck breaks down are essential to consider. For fund-raisers, event planners need to decide how they will make money, either by charging guests an admission fee or by collecting a percentage of food sales. D Magazine: “Trucks will drive up, prep a bit, open the windows, and start serving. When everyone’s full, they drive off without ever stepping foot in your kitchen.” http://bit.ly/1RDpUTf
