3. TRACKING THE BOOM IN CANNABIS CONFERENCES: As the legalized marijuana industry matures, a host of new conferences and events are forming to serve the market. Events are trying to establish themselves, and exhibitors, speakers, and attendees, are trying to sort out which ones will offer the best opportunities. MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: The fifth annual Wine, Women & Shoes event will take place February 5 at the JW Marriott Marquis. The event is a benefit for Miami Children’s Health Foundation, the fund-raising arm of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
NEW YORK: The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center would add one million square feet of event space under a plan that Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday. The expansion would include a 60,000-square-foot ballroom, a four-level, 480,000-square-foot marshaling facility and new loading docks for trucks, and a new green roof terrace. The building, which currently has LEED Silver certification, would add seek LEED Platinum certification after the expansion. The governor’s office said construction could begin by the end of the year. The last expansion to the convention center wrapped up in 2014.
The New York Times Travel Show runs today to Sunday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The show will have more than 500 exhibitors and more than 150 travel industry speakers.
