The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau reported a record $2.1 million in collections of the countywide convention and development tax. The 2005 collection of the 3 percent tax on hotel rooms represents a 25 percent increase from the $1.7 million reported a year ago. The bureau also reports that the $30 million in collections for the first nine months of 2005 are 18 percent ahead of last year's numbers. The tax revenues are used to build the Miami Performing Arts Center and to maintain the Miami Beach Convention Center.
