The Beachside Resort and Conference Center, a five-star luxury destination with a sophisticated, urban feel, is set to open its doors next month. The seven-acre waterfront property, owned by Robert Spottswood, president of Spottswood Hotels, will offer a conference and meeting center, a full spectrum of banquet facilities and services, a private beach and heated pool, 93 standard king rooms, and 129 suites. Architect Thomas E. Pope used hurricane-resistant building materials in the construction of the four-story, 222-room Key West resort to improve the safety of the building. The design, courtesy of Miami-based interior designer Jeffrey Howard of Howard Design Group, features solid mahogany furniture upholstered in a palette of earth tones with sea-blue accents and floors swathed in gleaming marble and stone. Norman Van Aken, founding father of New World Cuisine, will reside over all of the venue's culinary endeavors.
