In a city brimming with the young and flashy, the Macy's in South Beachβformerly the landmark Burdine's department storeβwas starting to look a bit neglected. But after a four-month renovation, the 91,000-square-foot retail space was ready for its close-up. In honor of the refurbishment, Macy's threw a swinging soiree to introduce the redesign to industry V.I.P.s and fashionistas.Macy's created a South Beach ambience with ocean colors and colorful maps heralding the new design. White flower centerpieces by White Tulip Florist added a touch of elegance to the makeup counter displays. The South Beach theme extended to both levels of the store, as cocktail stations were placed throughout the departments and music provided by DJ Irie encouraged eventgoers to dance in the aisles.
Miami artist Romero Britto made an appearance at the event. Britto created the commemorative design, titled "Macy's Celebration," that appears on the store's shopping bags and on a large mural on the second floor. Collectible posters of the design were distributed throughout the evening.
Table 8 provided appetizers of seared tuna over white bean spread on toast points and fried olives prepared by chef Govind Armstrong. Armstrong was also on hand to sign copies of his cookbook, Small Bites, Big Nights, being sold at the event by Books and Books.

Design elements, such as new escalators that create the illusion of a grand staircase, guided eventgoers to the second floor and featured a display environment between the escalators to highlight the latest fashion trends.
