Despite falling occupancy rates, upscale and deluxe hotel chains are continuing their expansion plans, according to Business Travel News. One Manhattan newcomer: Marriott International is opening a New York addition to its upscale J. W. Marriott chain in the former all-suite Rihga Royal Hotel. The company is also creating a new luxury brand called Bvlgari Hotels, a joint venture with Italian jeweler Bulgari. The Bvlgari chain will have a limited number of smaller, upscale properties. The first cities aren't official yet, but the company expects to begin construction on a few hotels by 2003.
