City Hall Park hosted a bevy of bureaucrats and business leaders Monday. Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer, New York congressman Jerrold Nadler, and city council speaker Christine Quinn, joined by NYC & Company chairman Jonathan Tisch and C.E.O. Cristyne Nicholas, officially endorsed the expansion plans for the Javits Center. The current plans call for a 45 percent increase in total space, bringing it from 760,000 to 1.1 million square feet, and the construction of a 1,500-room hotel. According to an NYC & Company press release, since 2000 the city has been forced to turn away more than 170 meetings, which represent two million hotel room nights and $1 billion in economic activity, because Javits was not large enough to host them.
