The Campbell Apartment—the 1920’s-style lounge in Grand Central Terminal—is getting a new look. Mark C. Grossich, owner and operator of Hospitality Holdings Inc. (a portfolio of cocktail lounges that also includes the Carnegie Club, Bookmarks, and the World Bar), has selected British interior designer Nina Campbell to renovate the lounge.
The Campbell Apartment is located in the former office of John W. Campbell, a railroad tycoon of the era. Nina Campbell (no relation), whose clients include the Duke and Duchess of York, the Queen of Denmark, and Rod Stewart, will completely refurbish the 3,500-square-foot space, giving it a more modern edge while preserving its architectural history. It is Campbell’s first commercial design project in the U.S., and she is aiming to complete the renovations next month. The work will take place after hours, so the bar will remain open as usual.
