Only 125 miles from New York, Atlantic City has had a slew of openings in the past year—including the recent debut of the 800-room Water Club hotel. Here's a selection of new places to go this summer:

1. Michael Schulson—the former executive chef at Buddakan—opened Izakaya at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa today. Styled after a Japanese pub, the menu here covers a wide range of dishes, from assorted tempuras and sushi, to robatayaki grilled fare, along with imported Japanese beers and sake. Decorated with gold-leaf patterns and carved wood, the restaurant seats 180 in the dining room and lounge.2. Officially opening on August 1 is the Chelsea, one of the few nongaming hotels in the area, and inside will be two restaurants from Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr. On the ground floor will be Teplitzsky, a diner-inspired spot with original terrazzo floors, redwood walls, and cantilevered stools. The other eatery, Chelsea Prime, is to be up on the fifth floor, and will feature a steak-house menu, indoor and outdoor seating, and a cocktail lounge.

3. Following a $550 million expansion completed in March, Harrah's Atlantic City debuted as the tallest hotel casino in the seaside city and within it are new entertainment and dining spaces. Aside from the eight eateries—including the new 640-seat Waterfront Buffet—this hotel also features the Pool, a massive bar and entertainment space housed under a 90-foot-tall glass dome. Strictly for adults, this area is filled with private cabanas, hot tubs, and lounges with snacks served directly to guests.
