OSCAR PREVIEW: From L.A. bureau chief Alesandra Dubin: This weekend in Los Angeles, the attention will be on the Grammy awards, but the party lineup for the Oscars February 26 is already starting to take shape. In addition to the big three parties on awards night—the academy's Governors Ball, Vanity Fair's A-list-only fete, and Elton John's fund-raising bash—these are some of the events already on the calendar:
* Global Green U.S.A.’s ninth annual pre-Oscar party will take to Avalon Hollywood February 22, with sponsor Chevy Volt chauffeuring attendees to the green carpet in its electric vehicles.
* The fifth annual Essence "Black Women in Hollywood" luncheon will take to the Beverly Hills Hotel February 23.
* The U.S.-Ireland Alliance will dole out its awards to Michelle Williams, Melissa McCarthy, and John Logan at J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot studio in Santa Monica February 23.
* On Oscar night, the Beverly Hills Hotel's Crystal Ballroom will once again serve as the backdrop for the 22nd annual "Night of 100 Stars" black-tie viewing dinner.
* Architectural Digest has chosen interior designer Waldo Fernandez to create the mag's signature greenroom for presenters and honorees at the 84th annual Academy Awards.
2. FASHION WEEK PR: The New York Times talks seating arrangements, score settling, and client strategy with publicist Pierre Rougier of PR Consulting: “Though few people outside fashion know his name, Mr. Rougier, 50, is unquestionably one of that world’s most influential—and controversial—characters.”

3. MAGIC PREVIEW: Massive fashion trade event Magic, which comes with a broad assortment of related shows, will kick off Monday and run through Wednesday at the Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay convention centers. Among the program's offerings:
* SLATE, Magic's action sports branch, intends to up the energy with a new blogger lounge curated by lifestyle and fashion journalist Marcus Troy, and a concert from Lauryn Hill on Monday at the House of Blues.
* Magic, in partnership with Fashion Business Inc., has initiated a new area that will foster up-and-coming designers and assist them in launching sustainable businesses. Known as Launch Pad, the area will be located within WWDMagic.
* Sourcing at Magic will bring a new educational series with seminars addressing relevant industry topics. Sourcing brings double-digit increases in number of exhibitors and square footage this season.
4. STAGE COLLAPSE FINES: The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued fines after the deadly August 13 stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair. Most of the fines went to Mid-America, the scaffolding company, for failing to inspect the stage and fairgrounds. Indystar.com: "The state determined that Mid-America did not follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the stage components when it put into place the cross bracing that connected the towers at each end of the stage."

5. THRILLIST'S NEW STRUCTURE: The media company and e-commerce site—and ambitious event host—is morphing into a new company, Thrillist Media Group, to unite the separate businesses. Adam Chandler, former chief revenue officer of ad network Martini Media and Yahoo exec, is joining the new group to work on separate media, e-commerce, and the deals business. Ad Age:

6. KOMEN RESIGNATION: Susan G. Komen for the Cure's vice president of public policy, Karen Handel, resigned Tuesday, following the uproar over a plan to end its Planned Parenthood funding. CBS New York: "A person with direct knowledge of decision-making at Komen’s headquarters said Handel was a driving force behind the move to cut the funding."
