July 21, 2015: Miley Cyrus to Host MTV V.M.A.s, Why New York Fashion Week: Men's Fell Short, This Music Festival Will Accept Payment in Blood

1. MILEY CYRUS TO HOST MTV V.M.A.S: In an announcement posted to Instagram, singer and provocateur Miley Cyrus announced she will host this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Nominations for the awards will be released today, and the show will air live August 30 from Los Angeles. Entertainment Weekly: “Cyrus will be the award show’s first host since Kevin Hart in 2012, as the last two year’s have gone host-less.” http://bit.ly/1fidwKU

2. WHY NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: MEN'S FELL SHORT: The debut of New York Fashion Week: Men's left some critics disappointed with the lack of risk-taking among designers, although commercially it might prove to be a success. Quartz: “New York’s two biggest names, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, don’t have the same power to intrigue fashion’s tastemakers, as they’re geared more toward the mass market than a high-fashion audience. Neither has even bothered much with doing full-on runway shows for their men’s collections for years now. … The London calendar, which has the advantage of starting the season, has established itself as a place to look for innovation.” http://bit.ly/1HMfgUz

3. THIS MUSIC FESTIVAL WILL ACCEPT PAYMENT IN BLOOD: To encourage blood donation as well as sell tickets to a new music festival, organizers have adopted a site-specific promotion. Adweek: “To sell tickets to its first-time event, the Transylvania-based Untold Music Festival is working the Dracula angle. In partnership with Romania's National Blood Transfusion Institute, it has launched ‘Pay with Blood,’ a campaign that lets you buy a day pass with plasma.” http://bit.ly/1Sy1UjU
