August 26, 2015: NYC Wine & Food Fest Event in Jeopardy After Co-Hosts Drop Out, Tech Media Buzzes About Possible Apple Event, MTV Creates Moonman Twitter Emoji for V.M.A. Tweets

1. NYC WINE & FOOD FEST EVENT IN JEOPARDY AFTER CO-HOSTS DROP OUT: The original plan was to hold a ramen party with some of the city’s top noodle bars at this fall’s New York City Wine & Food Festival. But after co-host Chrissy Teigen dropped out, festival organizers added blogger and performance artist Josh “the Fat Jew” Ostrovsky without consulting co-host Kenji López-Alt of the Food Lab. López-Alt objected to Ostrovsky, and now he and several participating restaurants, as well as a sponsor, have abandoned the event. Mashable: “In the meantime, tickets are still being sold at $150 apiece, and inquiring minds want to know — in the midst of Ostrovsky's social media catastrophe — why would the NYC Wine and Food Festival hire The Fat Jew to host a ramen party? Do they see him as influential in the food world? If so, they are the only ones.” http://on.mash.to/1PR3WvH

2. TECH MEDIA BUZZES ABOUT POSSIBLE APPLE EVENT: The tech media is speculating that Apple is planning to debut its new iPhone next month, tipped off by a local blog that noted someone had booked the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for a private event. The 7,000-seat space is much larger than Apple’s usual venue, the 755-seat Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which could mean Apple is planning a different style of launch than previous announcements. Yahoo Finance: “The filing documents say that the space is being used for a ‘trade show’ that will run until the 10th. Twitter, which has its offices very near the auditorium, holds its annual developer conference at the Bill Graham auditorium. But that's not until October. Adding to the mystery is the fact that four of the building's windows will be removed to make way for giant fiberglass logos, per the permit application. In those documents, the logo looks like a misshapen star, but that could just be something that Apple's using as a placeholder to throw off the scent.” http://yhoo.it/1KLVY2o

3. MTV CREATES MOONMAN TWITTER EMOJI FOR V.M.A. TWEETS: Viewers who tweet about the MTV Video Music Awards using the #VMA or #VMAs hashtag will automatically include an emoji fashioned after the network’s Moonman trophy. The emoji is a partnership between MTV and Twitter to promote the awards, which air Sunday. Advertising Age: “Marketers and media companies have been creating emojis as a way to be part of the social conversation. McDonald's has anthorpomorphized emojis on TV, while Domino's this summer began letting customers order by tweeting a pizza emoji. And FX Networks introduced an emoji app last month that features expressions inspired by popular shows.” http://bit.ly/1KL6cjz
