The official launch party for DailyCandy’s first book, DailyCandy A to Z, was a budget-friendly, sugar-laden, lively event filled with media, designers, PR reps, and other friends of the girly email service and Web site. Jeralyn Gerba, DailyCandy’s New York associate editor (and, we should tell you, a BiZBash contributor), planned the bash at Guesthouse and said it “represented the DailyCandy attitude and showcased the food and drink and fashion that we have written about.”Of course sweets were first on the agenda—Gerba shopped on the Lower East Side for candy canisters and jars, filling them with gumballs, Mary Janes, wax lips, and mixed piñata candy from Economy Candy. The containers and sweets dotted the club’s first-floor lounge area—topping tables and slotted into decorative niches in the walls. There were also Freztel’s chocolate-covered pretzels, and tester-sized fragrances from Bond No. 9 packaged in candy wrappers. Artisanal pizzas from the new eatery Palà and mini croque monsieurs, paninis, and rice balls from My Befana gave guests more substantial fare. And Peter Salyer from Cotton Candy Clowns handed out cherry and watermelon snow cones made with bottled Borba water—another DailyCandy find that purportedly has skin-replenishing properties.
To give the event a little branding, DailyCandy sent images of their signature illustrations to Maine-based company Simply Divine to print the artwork onto icing-covered brownies. Kodak cameras and photo printers allowed guests to photograph themselves.
