Slated for a September grand opening, both the Waldorf-Astoria Orlando-the first Waldorf outside of New York City-and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek hosted a "Topping Out" ceremony at their Walt Disney World Resort locale. The event, with an appropriate construction-chic theme (a favorite these days among many planners for groundbreakers and grand openings), included guided tours for civic, community, and business leaders, as well as delectable bites compliments of the Waldorf's resident chef and author, John Doherty. Doherty also hosted a cooking class with children from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida in conjunction with the event.
Mirroring the luxe amenities of its New York parent property, the 14-story Waldorf-Astoria Orlando will offer planners 28,000 square feet of function space, including a 8,100-square-foot ballroom, two executive boardrooms, and an island-esque outdoor space. Additionally, the hotel's signature spa and on-site restaurant, Bull & Bear Steakhouse, will also be available for private events. The adjacent Hilton will boast 122,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 36,000-square-foot ballroom and more than 40 flexible meeting rooms. Both hotels will also share spa privileges, as well as use of a new 7,205-yard Rees Jones-designed golf course.
