Here are two ways to put a new spin on DJs—no pun intended.
1. Mix on Wheels expanded its mobile DJ fleet with an E2 Honda Element in June. The vehicle is equipped with turntables, plasma display screens, LED lighting, and speakers in doors that flip up to provide maximum sound distribution. The company's resident DJs have more than 65,000 songs from various genres in their library. Rentals start at $4,000 for four hours and include a DJ and built-in lighting elements.
2. Europe's popular silent party concept has landed stateside with the opening of Orlando-based Silent Party USA. Unlike a traditional DJ, the company provides each guest with a pair of dual-channel wireless headphones that play the event's music. Perfect for outdoor affairs where noise ordinances can be an issue, Silent Party's headphones offer two channels so guests can control their music choice within a 300-foot radius of the DJ. The company has 1,000 headphones priced at $10 each. Booking fees for the two DJs, plus one technical support person for every 250 headphones, starts at $1,800 for four hours.
