
Luxury spa resort Travaasa Austin opened in 2011 on Lake Travis, 30 minutes from downtown Austin, with 70 guest rooms offering patios and decks overlooking Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. There are six homey, hardwood-floor meeting and event spaces seating as many as 144, and group event options include culinary programs, spa experiences, and Texas two-step classes.

The new, 17-story Hyatt Place Austin/Downtown is slated to open in early 2013 in a prime downtown location, two blocks from the Austin Convention Center. The 296-room hotel has two meeting rooms, seating as many as 40 or 76 theater-style.

The arty, seven-room Heywood Hotel opened on the East Side in January 2012, remodeling an early 20th-century home with a design that includes pine hardwood floors, Danish armchairs, and tall skylights. The larger of the suites have amenities like wet bars and patios. Small groups can buy out the entire hotel.

A renovation in 2012 refurbished the top five floors of the centrally located Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, adding an array of suites and bringing the room count up from 375 to 392. The new luxury suites range in size from 633 to 1,717 square feet and have a Texas feel with hardwood floors, driftwood accents, and barn door entryways. The hotel has 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
