Visit Houston, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, launched a free app in November that uses augmented-reality technology to provide an easy way for meeting attendees to experience the city. The app displays nearby points of interest, including hotels, restaurants, and attractions, within the user’s immediate vicinity. Users can also access visithouston.com directly through the app to get more information. Future enhancements will include the ability to make hotel and restaurant reservations, book parking spaces, purchase event tickets, and connect with local transportation services.

Virtual alcohol marketplace and delivery service Drizly recently expanded into Houston. The company partners with local retailers to connect customers with vendors. Planners can browse the Drizly website or mobile app for a variety of beer, wine, and spirits, purchase directly online, and either request an immediate delivery, schedule a future delivery, or arrange for in-store pick-up. Delivery costs $5, while in-store pickup is free. Plus, the service also provides a concierge team for help with placing corporate gifting orders.
