Mass for Capitol File’s Little Black Book issue party last night had
plenty to ogle. We’re not talking about the panoramic view of
the city’s skyline, but rather the very eligible singles in attendance,
including many of the 99 who made the magazine’s Little Black Book list, an
annual roundup of the city’s most desirable—and available.
Associate publisher Jayne Sandman said she wanted to amp up the sexy, romantic vibe, choosing billowing red-satin tablecloths, loads of candles, and plenty of aphrodisiac finger foods such as oysters and boursin-stuffed strawberries. Scoring the prime rooftop locale (complete with a lap pool), which is not usually available for parties, was marketing kismet. The condo building’s developer is a big Capitol File advertiser and was looking to appeal to young urbane singles. “They had contacted us to say they would love to do an event up here, and knowing the demographic they wanted to reach, I thought, A-ha! That’s our Little Black Book party,” Sandman said.

Guests sipped signature cocktails featuring Christiana vodka—another advertiser, natch—champagne, and grapefruit juice. Though a sprinkling of rain early in the evening drove partiers to seek shelter, the passing storm had the effect of adding to the view by whipping up the hemlines of summer sundresses.
The most thoughtful event-planning touch—a perfect sunset—took some research: Sandman looked up annual sunset times and timed the party to coincide with the expected 8:47 p.m. show.Photo: BizBash
