Leadership Sinai, a volunteer group of young corporate and community leaders supporting Mount Sinai Hospital, chose a sunny South Beach theme for the annual Leadership Sinai Spring Ball benefiting Mount Sinai's Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute. The group worked with Craig Gruzd, creative director with Designing Trendz, to organize and decorate the $180-per-head fund-raiser held in the ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto. "South Beach suited the young crowd and offered a way to do something young, fresh, hip, and inspiring," Gruzd said. Decor highlights included white bars, private lounge-style cabanas, and feathery spandex palm trees lit in pink, purple, and blue. Four Seasons chef Robert Bartley served South Beach-inspired eats such as mahi-mahi fish cakes with coconut remoulade and mini Cuban chicken sandwiches with jack cheese. Seamus O'Regan, co-host of CTV's Canada AM, provided M.C. services, while the South Beach Funk Orchestra, featuring members of the James Brown band, provided musical entertainment. A Vespa motor scooter was among the prizes awarded to guests who took part in fund-raising activities. By night's end, the event took in $250,000 for a worthy cause.
