Behind the Scenes at Macy's Fireworks

Posted 07.03.01
So while people from all over New York watch the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks display from their roofs, in tall office buildings or on television, where do the folks from Macy's go? According to Macy's director of publicity Elina Kazan, the store's execs watch the show from the same grandstands set up for the public along the East River. Meanwhile, Macy's also hosts a party for about 150 journalists who cover the retailer throughout the year, as well as for news crews covering the fireworks, near the grandstands at the Water Club (which also hosted April's going-away party for former Macy's event chief Jean McFaddin).

A little behind-the-scenes info: Macy's staffers spent Monday and Tuesday on Staten Island loading four barges from Hughes Brothers, each with 5,000 fireworks shells from Fireworks by Grucci and Pyro Spectaculars.
