This Week: Architecture Week and Columbus Day

Earlier today, Essence magazine held a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony at its first designer show house (known as Homecoming); the Harlem brownstone opens its doors to the public Sunday. Architecture Week kicks off Thursday, with the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ Heritage ball at Pier Sixty. Also tomorrow, Women’s Health magazine launches at Harry’s Loft with food and decor by Serena Bass Inc. and event production by Empire Entertainment. Also Thursday, Cottages & Gardens Publications hosts the Luxury Second Home Expo at Twenty Four Fifth.

Friday the International Art and Design Fair commences at the Seventh Regiment Armory; the fair continues through Tuesday. Highlighting the weeklong festivities of Architecture Week, Open House New York takes place this Saturday and Sunday, with free tours at over 100 sites throughout the city. Monday is Columbus Day, and the annual parade takes to Fifth Avenue.

Next Tuesday is a busy day, with the United Nations Association’s Global Leadership award dinner at the Waldorf Astoria and Americans for the Arts’ National Arts awards at Cipriani 42nd Street. Also that day, the Brussels Convention and Visitors trade show comes to Harry’s Loft. And at Self magazine’s monthlong Self Center on Fifth Avenue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America Foundation relaunches the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign with the Courage Night benefit.
