ABC News reported late Thursday afternoon that a corpse was discovered in a shed at the McCarren Park Pool in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Parks workers found the badly decomposed body around 10 a.m. Thursday morning while retrieving equipment in the structure that also serves as the pool’s entrance. They told police on the scene that they’d noticed “a foul odor had been coming from the shed at the pool for months.” In that time, McCarren has seen dozens of public events, including, just in the last week, a concert by the Breeders, a performance of the play Twelve Ophelias, and a screening of The Virgin Suicides.Since it reopened in 2005, the McCarren Park Pool has played host to free concerts and film screenings (as well as several ticketed shows) throughout the summer months. In 2007, it even hosted Brooklyn’s alternative trade show, the Renegade Craft Fair. JellyNYC is responsible for the pool's summer parties, and we spoke with them this time last year about producing the popular free events.
A representative at the pool couldn’t be reached Thursday evening, but there has been no news that the ongoing police investigation will affect the schedule of events.
