Top 50 Event Designers 2019: Lorne Levitt

The Montreal-based designer on tying everyday items into decor.

“One of the co-chairs for the [Silver Anniversary Daffodil Ball] was a big-wig from Rio Tinto, one of the big producers of aluminum foil. So my immediate instinct was to find a way to include their product in the silver anniversary. I designed a 150-foot by-20-foot ceiling structure that would feature an abstract wave of silver foil panels. A combination of L.E.D. wash lights and moving spots would bring it to life throughout the event. Hundreds of man-hours were spent cutting and crumpling foil panels and smoothing them back out in pre-production. Miles of foil were used.”
