Harrison & Shriftman brought a little French decadence to the Upper East Side for the opening party for the new Lancel store on Madison Avenue. The focus of the French cabaret-themed evening was a pair of flirty cancan girls in feather headdresses, bustiers and fluffy crinoline skirts, who danced for guests while DJ Milly De Mori from SoundSelective played an appropriate, fun mix of Edith Piaf, French pop and show tunes.
The party--perfectly suited in timing and theme to the new Moulin Rouge film--was designed to help the French luxury goods company update and expand its image in the United States. Guests entered the party near the store's entrance, and then walked through a tented stretch of sidewalk along Madison to a larger tent on 80th Street that housed the cabaret area of the party. Tansey Design Associates completely covered the inside of the tent with red fabric, and filled the space with red carpet and red furniture.
Caterwaiters from Tentation brought out a steady stream of hors d'oeuvres, including a parmesan pastry, beluga pancakes, beef carpaccio and raw oysters (perfectly suited to the current raw bar trend). The party's decadent display also included two bars with rows of champagne glasses and piles of chocolate-covered strawberries.
The dancers (from Screaming Queens) made a great backdrop for photos. New York 1's George Whipple taped a segment in front of them, although most of the celebrities who appeared at the event posed for photographers in front of a wall of purses in the store. Who was there? Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Debi Mazar, Debra Messing (who missed her own show on television to come) and Lorraine Bracco (after all, it's not a celebrity event in New York without at least one Sopranos cast member).

Cancan girls from Screaming Queens danced inside a red tent for the Lancel store opening party.

DJ Milly De Mori from SoundSelective played a fun mix of Edith Piaf, French pop, show tunes and current music that suited the events French cabaret theme.

A long, narrow tent covered a stretch of sidewalk in front of Lancel's new Madison Avenue store, and a larger tent on 80th Street housed the cabaret area of the party.

Inside the new Lancel store, celebrities including The Sopranos' Lorraine Bracco posed for photographers.
