Porter Airlines, Canada's newest short-haul carrier, debuted with an elegant launch party for 750 politicians, investors, journalists, and potential passengers. Company president and C.E.O. Robert Deluce worked with Brickman Entertainment Group to organize the affair, held in the Porter Airlines hanger at Toronto Island Airport. Deluce said he wanted to create an event that "showcased the Porter experience." The carrier supplied guests with free transportation to the airport from Union Station via shuttle bus and ferry. The evening included a tour of a Bombardier Q400 aircraft, one of the planes in the Porter Airlines fleet.Flight staff wearing uniforms designed by Pink Tartan mingled with guests in the lounge space, which featured furniture from Contemporary Furniture Rentals and displays of in-flight amenities such as bottled water and sleep masks.
Martini Club served drinks at the bar, while Eatertainment supplied a food menu that included shoestring French fries served in paper cones, mini open-faced croque monsieur with pommery purple mustard, and Thai chicken bundles skewered with lemongrass and served with sweet chili nuac nam sauce.
As part of the launch ceremony, hosted by Canadian Idol's Ben Mulroney, Deluce unveiled the airline's logo and livery, created by designer Tyler Brul? of Wallpaper fame through his advertising agency Winkreative. Later in the evening, singer Matt Dusk performed.
