Premiere magazine celebrated its picks for 2006’s most notable film performances—presented in the publication’s January/February issue—with a small, targeted cocktail party. The magazine’s Amy Elmer coordinated the intimate affair, limiting the guest list to 125. “There’s going to be so many big parties in the next few months,” Elmer said. “We wanted our guests to feel at home.” Elmer went to Chris Brock of CB Gardens for floral design, and BNC handled PR.The sweeping views of the Los Angeles skyline at the Terrace restaurant in the Sunset Tower Hotel might not have felt like home for some guests. However, Elmer created a cozy atmosphere, swapping the restaurant’s chairs and tables with the hotel’s suede couches and ottomans and placing glowing votives throughout the space.
Believing that too much branding would detract from guests’ appreciation of the hotel’s Art Deco elements, Elmer kept product references to a minimum. “The hotel is an Art Deco landmark,” Elmer said. “We didn’t want to take away from the venue; we wanted to help bring it to life.” Premiere and sponsor Biolage’s logos appeared both as gobos shining on an adjoining outdoor pool’s surface and on cookies baked by the folks at GoodFortunes. The cookies also featured photos of actors lifted from the pages of Premiere’s “Best Performances of 2006” piece. A selection of hors d’oeuvres included ahi tuna tataki, maple-syrup chicken tulips, and sweet corn risotto.
