Picture a hybrid of Medieval Times and a Hollywood premiere and you’ve conjured the look of Showtime’s party on March 26 for its racy Henry VIII drama The Tudors, planned by the network’s director of special events, Brad Setting, and his team. Following the screening at the Egyptian Theatre, security guards monitored a stretch of Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk that was closed to accommodate horsemen and musicians in period garb as well as check-in flow, as guests moved next door to a tented Les Deux, where they found an entrance flanked by flickering faux torches. “The whole goal was to re-create the feel of the period, and I know we accomplished it, because people said it looked like it was right out of the set,” Setting said.
Inside the party—which Setting tapped Wendy Creed Productions to design and produce—buffet tables piled high with meat-heavy dishes and accented with colorful apples and grapes sat alongside the suits of armor, shields, and other 16th-century decor that dotted the space, and rough-hewn, wrought-iron candelabra-style chandeliers hung overhead. But even with all the trimmings meant to evoke the Europe of centuries past, there was one hard-to-miss modern touch: Sponsor Autore set up a prominent information table for its jewelry.
“This event was really different,” Creed said. “Most people do club looks for every party, but this looked like it was really of the time.”
