To take advantage of the buying season for spring-summer 2011, fashion designer Brandon R. Dwyer presented a preview of his Basch by Brandon line at a cocktail party in The Lounge at 99 Sudbury on Wednesday. Candice Chan and Alison Slight of Candice&Alison Luxury Event Management planned the drop-in event, which drew 100 media and buyers over the course of three hours.
"Fashion week in Toronto, from a pure retail perspective, is late in the buying season," said Chan. "This is a sales event. At the end of the night, Brandon needs to make sales."
Candice&Alison displayed eight looks from the line on mannequins positioned on top of a branded floor covering created by Dance Floor Decor in the main room. A projection in the adjoining space showed rotating images of looks from the collection. "The theme of the collection is Paris, so when we were looking for a venue, this was perfect," Chan said of 99 Sudbury. "It has a lot of French moldings, and the space fit [Brandon's] colour scheme very well."
Simple white floral arrangements designed by Chan and Slight topped tables throughout. Servers offered a selection of wines, and guests helped themselves to fruit and cheese platters at a buffet table.
The designer, who is planning a runway show later this fall, offered an incentive to buyers who booked appointments during the event.
