April 12, 2013: Masters Changes Iconic Sandwich, Fleet Week Downsized, Award Show Seeks TV Deal

1. MASTERS CHANGES ICONIC PIMENTO CHEESE SANDWICH: The Kentucky Derby has its mint julep and the Masters golf tournament has pimento cheese sandwiches. The iconic concessions item has long been a staple of the sporting event, which began yesterday, but this year fans have noticed a difference. A new vendor is supplying them. ESPN: "I am fine with adding the female members, and I am tolerating the belly putters," fan Paul Jones said, "but changing the pimento cheese recipe is taking change too damn far." http://es.pn/150zHO6

2. FLEET WEEK GETS DOWNSIZED: New York's tourist corridors will be a little less crowded because of a smaller Fleet Week this year. The event, scheduled for May 23-30, will only attract local Navy and Coast Guard units since the budget battle in Washington will keep the larger ships at sea. New York Post: "The big Florida- and Virginia-based ships that usually dock on the West Side and Staten Island won’t participate—meaning less business for Midtown strip clubs, shops, and eateries." http://bit.ly/ZlfPyi

3. AWARD SHOW TRIES TO GET TV TIME: The third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards, set for June 10 at the Beverly Hilton, are still trying to get a deal to broadcast the show. The Hollywood Reporter: "Sources at the association said they are in discussions and hope to have a TV deal for the show soon. Last year, the show was not televised. The first year it was on the Reelz Channel, and parts also were on or rebroadcast on VH1." http://bit.ly/ZQnQul

4. DAVID ADLER ON INDUSTRY TRENDS: BizBash founder and C.E.O. David Adler shared industry trends with the New Jersey chapter of M.P.I. Here's one key insight: "Experiential is out, transformational is in. With attendees getting more sophisticated, they have seen and heard everything. Surfacing approaches are no longer acceptable, attendees want to be moved and transported." http://bit.ly/ZPlBr6
