If the Jack Spade brand is preppy and urban (in the original sense of that word), then the laid-back, picnic-style launch party for its sunglasses line with Selima was a perfect fit. Held in and around a garage on Pier 40 on the Hudson, the party offered only-in-New York views and down-home touches: The invited fashion types could grab a Dos Equis from a line of coolers or line up for a Bacardi mojito (both brands sponsored), and then sit outside to chat or head inside to try on the new shades. Kate Spade and Jack Spade favorite Callahan Catering served potato salad and hamburgers and hot dogs fresh from the grill (although not quickly enough to prevent a 20-minute line at the only food station). Cuban band Yerba Buena performed, and a remote-controlled boat race provided just the kind of boyish fun the brand embodies.
