Maverick chef Ferrán Adrià and his El Bulli restaurant in Montjoi, Spain, have been making waves in the Spanish restaurant scene for years. Chef Alex Ureña trained with Adria, and opened his own restaurant, called Ureña, in the Flatiron district on January 23, serving modern Spanish cuisine.
Not to be outdone by the Guggenheim’s young ’uns, the Frick Collection’s fashionable Young Fellows March 9 benefit is called “Tango and Tapas,” a theme inspired by the late-career works of Spanish artist Francisco Goya on exhibit at the museum.
Les Halles founding partner and chef Jose Meireilles opened Tintol, a Spanish and Portuguese wine and tapas bar in the theater district, in December. The menu features specialties such as anguillas—baby eels native to the Iberian peninsula—and suckling pig.
