A Party for Planners: One Caterer's Collaboration with D.C.'s Top Talent

Rebecca Pappas
August 20, 2015

Ridgewells Catering recently teamed up with amazing creative partners to show off an astounding array of entertaining ideas at Lavender & Love, an affair for Washington, D.C.’s, most talented event planners.

The wedding-focused event was held at the Strathmore Music Center and Mansion and included delectable cuisine from Ridgewells Catering, spectacular decorative details from floral designer Philippa Tarrant, modern-rustic furniture and custom-fabricated fixtures and art from Syzygy Events International, and a special Instagram station from party planning experts Events in the City. The Dandelion Patch designed gorgeous custom invitations for the exclusive event, and Maria Karina Cakes wowed guests with show-stopping designer wedding cakes. Meanwhile, talented photographer Abby Jiu captured every perfect moment of the day.

As the exclusive catering partner for Strathmore, Ridgewells Catering was able to showcase every event area in this expansive venue. A mock ceremony took place in the Music Room, complete with modern sequin drapes and a purple ombre runner. A Moroccan-inspired table setting with specialty linens and tableware provided by Party Rentals Ltd., was set up in the mansion’s art gallery and blended seamlessly with the colorful wall hangings.

Guests mingled among live string music outside Strathmore's magnificent Music Center, while enjoying passed hors d'oeuvres and the evening's signature cocktail: champagne and elderflower. A custom-fabricated step and repeat wall from Syzygy Events International created a unique spot for guest photos and advertised the event's hashtag: #WeddingsByRidgewells.

Outside, guests were seated under a large tent, courtesy of Capital Party Rentals. Philippa Tarrant and Syzygy Events International collaborated to create breathtaking chandeliers, including a fixture holding hundreds of flowers that dangled upside down from the ceiling. Philippa Tarrant also created gorgeous floral garlands and centerpieces for each table in the same watercolor palette throughout the Lavender & Love event. Glass plate chargers allowed Ridgewells Catering to create custom placemats, artfully displaying each guest's name on the wood farm tables provided by Syzygy Events.

Ridgewells' culinary team curated a bright and fresh menu for the party. The first course was a delicious summer salad with watermelon, heirloom vegetables, and goat cheese. A cucamelon spritzer followed just before the entrée of seared sea bass with a spicy sweet pea purée, curried coconut, carrot purée, and local vegetables.

On their way out, guests were treated to a host of delectable desserts, including strawberry champagne cake from Maria Karina Cakes, and white chocolate popcorn bark from Ridgewells' in-house bakery. As a pick-me-up, Ridgewells Catering put together an iced coffee and tea bar, where guests could choose from an assortment of flavors such as caramel or lemon thyme to add to their drink.

Every detail added up to create one totally inspiring event. Together with its creative partners, Ridgewells Catering crafted a flawless guest experience for the best D.C. planners in the business and made its mark on the highly competitive local wedding market.
