What are some event spaces that can accommodate dogs?
In a city where dogs go almost everywhere, it can be tricky to find an indoor venue willing to host a party of pooches. Even dog-friendly bars and restaurants restrict nonservice dogs to outdoor seating areas in order to comply with health department regulations. For an indoor space where four-legged guests can truly roam free, consider businesses that already cater to animals. These venues might seem a little bare bones, but upholstered furniture and fancy flooring don’t mix well with dogs.
Happy Paws, a 9,000-square-foot “pet resort,” has four event spaces in its NoHo facility. It hosts about 60 events a year, including birthday parties and monthly gatherings of local dog owners. Its largest room can hold 60 dogs and 60 humans and costs $135 an hour. Smaller rooms (maximum 10 dogs and 10 people) go for $40 an hour. All events require a two-hour minimum stay. The staff will provide tables and chairs and can recommend doggie bakeries and other vendors. The TriBeCa-based Paw Stop will rent its 1,000-square-foot playroom for $50 an hour. The room is equipped with a 46-inch plasma TV, an air fi ltration system, tables, and chairs, as well as clean-up supplies for those inevitable accidents. Events are limited to 20 dogs and 50 people. Biscuits & Bath offers event spaces at their six locations throughout Manhattan. The rooms range from 300 to 1,200 square feet; rental rates start at $250 an hour (with a two-hour minimum).
