More than 200 of Canada's best and brightest artists, entertainers, musicians, and athletes—among them 2006 Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila, X-Men star Shawn Ashmore, and Canadian Football League quarterback Damon Allen—gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for the 15th annual Bell Celebrity Gala. Bell Canada hired Solutions with Impact to produce the event, which attracted more than 2,300 guests and raised over $1,000,000 for the Hospital for Sick Children.Solutions With Impact tapped MMD Inc. to supply decor for the carnival-themed event, which featured a fashion show with designers such as Haux Couture, Izzy Camilleri, and Vintage Couture. MMD jazzed the space up with a "snack-food" trolley, a full-sized carousel, models in burlesque outfits, and large props of elephants and zebras. Red and black dominated the colour scheme. Black feathered spheres topped a massive square bar, flanked by arrangements of pink roses in classic urns on pedestals. Solar Aquatics contributed a square fountain framed by pink flowering potted plants. "We wanted to bring to life to the concept of expect the unexpected," said Patricia Lakin, Bell Canada's director of national events.
To enter the dining area, guests passed through a heart-shaped archway made of red roses and other red-hued flowers set against black draping. The tables featured black linens topped by colourful centerpieces such as pink metallic hatboxes with pink roses and black feathers and bouquets of roses surrounding clear burgee lamps from Contemporary Furniture Rentals.
Singer Belinda Carlisle headlined a cast of entertainers, who performed on a colourful stage from Mandell Entertainment. Later, during a V.I.P. after-party, singer Chantal Kreviazuk performed.
