
Organizers combined the conference program and badge into one item to minimize waste.

In 2012, organizers created a small presentation stage in the grand concourse where speakers such as the acting secretary of commerce and other industry experts spoke to attendees in the 30 minutes prior to the show opening.

The centrally located Buzz station allows attendees to create and print a personalized itinerary and floor plan and view a live stream of show events.

An outdoor lunch offered group picnic baskets, encouraging attendees to meet—and talk to—new people.

The in-person event has maintained an attendance of more than 30,000, despite the addition of the online program. “People attend virtual events for different reasons and we are not seeing and do not anticipate a cannibalization of the live event over the virtual,” Klinedinst said.

Monitors in the social media hub displayed the volume of tweets over time, a leaderboard of the most active people tweeting with the event hashtags, photos shared on Twitter and Instagram, a word cloud of trending topics, and more.

At its Vision Barcelona conference in November 2012, local children joined Symantec executives to plant a tree just outside the convention facility. The 15-year-old founder of Plant for the Planet spoke during the event's opening ceremony and Symantec pledged $10,000 to plant 10,000 more trees.






Inside the Grand Tasting, guests could relax at Delta's Sky Club lounge, choosing to sample sommelier-selected wines served in-flight or chow down on pulled pork sandwiches from barbecue restaurant Blue Smoke. Outside, Delta offered guests free pedicab rides to and from the far-flung piers and Columbus Circle.

Delta flight attendants pushed carts around the party, offering guests mini pretzels and other snacks. The staffers, real attendants for the airline, also passed out tickets that automatically entered guests to win two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental United States.
