HBO Luxury Lounge

HBO and Mediaplacement invited media and celebrity guests for the annual HBO Luxury Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. At the event, Pandora gifted its rings to guests and provided a mini red carpet—complete with a tiny step-and-repeat wall—for photo ops of hands. It was a logical complement to the adjacent manicure stations.

Jewelry brand Lia Sophia previewed its fall/winter 2011 collections at the Sunset Marquis in 2011. Smart customization did double duty as pretty decor: Floral spheres of monochromatic carnations from ESE Lifestyle (which also produced the event) topped PVC piping concealed by tall stacks of bracelets from the Industrielle II collection. Crushed glass at the bottom of white boxes that served as the pedestals' bases finished the look.

In 2008, Bulgari hosted an intimate dinner at a private manse in Los Angeles in honor of the American Ballet Theatre's local production of Swan Lake, which the luxury brand sponsored. Bulgari incorporated some of its most unique jewels, brought in from all over the world, into tabletop centerpieces alongside flowers and candles. Guests were invited to pick up and try on the pieces, which supplied dashes of color on the otherwise black-and-white decor palette. One pair of giant emerald earrings on display carried a value of nearly $5 million. Unobtrusive security guards stationed themselves discreetly around the perimeter.

Sparkle was in no short supply at the Field Museum in Chicago, where the women's board welcomed 900 guests to its annual gala in 2009. From crystalline centerpieces atop illuminated mirror boxes to strategically placed glittering topiaries, and from projected images of tumbling diamonds to a dessert embellishment the menu described as “golden sparkle curls,” the evening took its visual cues from the museum's latest exhibition, “The Nature of Diamonds.” A video of falling diamonds measured 50 by 660 feet.

At Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens' spring display last year, more than 800 live butterflies fluttered inside a 36-foot-long greenhouse. Around its perimeter, four live monitors showcased the metamorphosis of the pupae living inside as they transformed into butterflies. Species came from around the world, including Costa Rica, the Philippines, and Kenya. A 26-foot-tall windmill, weighing approximately 9,000 pounds, drew guests into a garden filled with tulips, mums, and poppies, as well as a larger-than-life display of 17-foot-tall tulip decor pieces. Overhead, 40 oversize blue raindrop-shaped pieces sprinkled spring showers throughout the garden.

For its spring 2013 installation, the Palazzo Las Vegas suspended 60 floating cherry blossoms from the glass dome in the Waterfall Atrium, making it look like the pieces were falling from a tree. As a surprising and humorous way to decorate the cavernous Park Avenue Armory's drill hall, the Jewish Museum and David Stark used more than 5,000 T-shirts to form walls and a ceiling. The custom tees were painted with tongue-in-cheek takes on classic slogans, like 'Frankie Says Relax It's Purim' and 'Got Spiel?' 'We love the fact that the characters of Purim—Esther, Mordecai, Haman, and Ahasuerus—could somehow be re-contextualized as the Fab Four, and thinking of that iconic T-shirt in which the Beatles names were lain out in the Helvetica font, we immediately made the leap to lay out our Purim names in that same format. And then that led to the blur of other iconic T-shirt graphics mixed with references to Judaism and Purim—all with a big smirk,' said Stark.
