Wedding Paper Divas and Mindy Weiss Luncheon
Wedding Paper Divas and Mindy Weiss Luncheon

To mark the launch of a collaboration between Mindy Weiss and Wedding Paper Divas on a new collection, the well-known social event planner and the social stationer hosted an intimate, feminine luncheon at Los Angeles's new Lombardi House on February 25. At the event, guests could fill bags with a custom potpourri mix.

"The dinner tables were dressed in a combination of white textured linens and silver birch linens to provide a polar-landscape-inspired foundation," designer John Hensel of HMR Designs said. Tabletop decor also included hand-carved "icebergs," iced-glass hurricanes, aluminum vases, and tall iced-glass cylinders. Hall's Rentals provided ice-blue wine glasses, and a box of Altoids at each place setting made for a thematic gift.

Working with Time Inc.'s Cyd Wilson, Tony Schubert of Event Eleven designed and produced the Los Angeles affair for the fifth consecutive year in 2013. The event had an overall look and feel Schubert described as "romantic" and "rich," evocative of the Art Deco era. The color scheme incorporated plenty of wine-red hues.

On Monday, guests enjoyed Mexican-themed fare and festive holiday decor at Project Art, a silent art auction and cocktail party held at 82 Mercer in New York. The fund-raiser was put on by the non-profit Project Paz, which promotes after-school activities for the children of Ciudad Juarez, one of Mexico’s most violent cities.

The American Cancer Society’s Discovery Ball in 2013 in Chicago was dubbed “Passport to Discovery” and had a time-travel theme. The registration desk was decorated to resemble a ticket counter.

Held in Paris in 2011, the event had touches inspired by a winter in Russia. Traditional Russian folk scarves draped the backs of each seat, adding not only a decorative element, but also a parting gift for guests and an on-the-spot warmup.

"I love creating a unique place for guests to congregate and enjoy one another, so I thought, why not create a massive floral carpet that would serve both as a beautiful focal point and a gathering area? I designed a 'carpet' and filled it with hundreds of beautiful blooms and then covered it with Plexiglas. The result was a statement piece that allowed guests to dance on air." —Preston Bailey

In a smart move that avoided the complications that come with laying carpet over stairs—especially on a snowy night in New York—the event's producers projected a strip of red light over the library's front steps, effectively creating a virtual red carpet that led to the entrance. Hundreds of LED candles sat on either side of the illuminated pathway.
