HMR Designs used light as a central element of decor. At the entrance, mirrored shards illuminated in blue stood before a dark tunnel that led guests to the cocktail reception.

"Large suspended masses of chrome, mirror, and illumination brought an intimacy to a dinner party for 750," said HMR Designs designer Rishi Patel.

"During dinner, planes of light and hand-tied wire patterns that projected light striae ... visually transported guests into a future periphery," Patel said.

Served with jagged-edged blue charger plates, the first course was an endive salad with a crostini of maple-smoked cheddar and raspberry vinaigrette.

An after-party took place upstairs where entertainment included a speed painter working under a black light that made his work glow.

Blue flowers in small silver vases decked tabletops throughout the hotel.
