Two custom structures created a sense of arrival at the entrance to the residence of the German ambassador. They reflected the modern architecture of the residence, and the long design drew guests into the reception hall. Since the attractive structures featured the Opera Ball logo, they also doubled as a step-and-repeat.

A canopy covering the middle section of the patio was created for the event, with tents set up to the left and to the right. The geometric, perforated design allowed guests a glimpse of the night sky.

The ball took advantage of the residence's expansive grounds and invited guests to explore the rose garden and pool deck. Dramatic lighting, including rows of votive candles around the rectangular pool and lighted cubes placed above the pool, were in keeping with the event's modern, angular feel based on the style of the residence designed by German architect O.M. Ungers.

The Museum of Science and Industry’s Columbian Ball
Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry hosted its black-tie gala, the Columbian Ball, on Saturday. The museum was originally built for the famous 1893 World’s Fair, and its history played into the decor. In the dinner tent, Heffernan Morgan Ronsley projected vintage photos of the museum onto cyclone-shaped fabric sculptures.

For the party’s second year on the Event Deck at L.A. Live, the production team created a strikingly different look and feel. Whereas for the previous two years, the party had evoked an urban loft—with stainless steel bead curtains, metal I-beams structures, exposed truss, and other details—this year, the vibe was more natural and organic. ESPN execs estimated about two thirds of the guests were new to the party this year.

Decor included a raw wood plank back bar and buffet walls and a dramatic six-foot flower arrangement in vibrant oranges. A chandelier-like ceiling treatment made from 1,000 Edison bulbs hung over the party space for a big impact over a large crowd.
