"We wanted discovery to be a major part of this event, starting from when they checked in," said Julie Nicola, senior director of brand marketing for PMK-BNC. "As guests arrived, they were asked to choose between three metal cards that correlated to one of the vignettes and acted as their entryway into the main room." Card designs featured motifs of a Nordic-inspired glacier, a London-inspired crown, and a Hong Kong-inspired dragon.

Paper airplanes were woven into the design of the event, including hanging ones that were inscribed with the hashtag #AmexPlatinum.

The Nordic area also included an ice bar with the American Express centurion mascot. The bar offered tastings of Akvavit, a Scandinavian-flavored spirit. Akvavit infusions included caraway, anise, and citrus.

"We spent a lot of time making sure that each installation felt authentic to the region it was representing," said Nicola. "For Hong Kong, we brought in a real bamboo wall and low-set tables with dim sum offerings and a tea-infused cocktail. As a discovery moment, we created custom fortune cookies with travel-theme quotes."

Nicola said the inspiration for the London-theme area came from street art culture in Shoreditch. The installation showcased a colorful abstract world-map mural that also was a backdrop for a GIF photo op.

The London-theme design included a colorful neon replica of the city's signature red telephone booth as part of a city-street installation. Guests could listen to music when picking up the phone.
