While critics and bloggers have had plenty of negative comments about Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, the network's decision to move the goings-on to Las Vegas appear to have helped the broadcast's ratings. (Or perhaps it was MTV's willingness to air the latest chapter in Britney Spears's downward spiral.) Broadcasting & Cable says the telecast averaged 7.08 million total viewers and 5 million viewers ages 12 to 34, which is up about 23 percent from last year. MTV.com had 2.6 million unique visitors Sunday, a 40 percent increase over last year.
