The decor didn't upstage the sexy and dramatic performances by Parafernalia Productions. Dressed in little more than gold body paint and tiny swimsuits, three performers entered the room, and danced slowly and provocatively. Lit candles blazed from the women's tops. Next, a performance by Romao and the Sound of Drums grabbed the room's attention. Dressed in a loincloth, Romao (who bills himself "the percussion artist") beat rhythms and leapt into the audience to dance with guests.
Bleu Flame Catering created an all-Asian menu. At one of two indoor stations, whole teriyaki fried fish was served with Thai chili sauce, a tangy Asian slaw, and a sake martini. The second station offered grilled spiced chicken and watercress salad. Outdoors, guests nibbled on wasabi-marinated strip steak with crisp potato pancakes. Lemon ginger martinis and lemongrass shrimp with ginger and chili over coconut-scented rice accompanied the steak. Bartenders from Borrow a Bartender graciously poured specialty drinks, including sake margaritas and the "Fortune Cookie"—a cocktail made with amaretto and vanilla vodka, and garnished with a fortune cookie.
The event began in the late afternoon. Keynote speaker Simon T. Bailey, founder of the Imagination Institute, encouraged attendees to develop themselves as their own greatest resource. A break followed, allowing guests to network with the vendors while sampling Classic Fare Catering's hors d'oeuvres. Educational sessions followed. One session discussed the ins and outs of contract negotiations; BiZBashFla associate publisher Shari Lynn Rothstein moderated. Featured panelists included Cindy Beamish, assistant general council at the University of Miami; Tessa Boudreaux, logistics and contract specialist at University of Miami; and Randi Freedman, president of Logistics Management Group. During the second session, "A Passport to Play," D. Maurie Lung, southeast director of Pathfinder Inc., showed attendees how games and activities promote teamwork in corporate settings.
