There may have been a lot of frustrated personal trainers in Hollywood the day after the Golden Globes. The throng of celebrities—including Seal, Heidi Klum, Sandra Oh, an array of Desperate Housewives, and dozens more—who packed the Beverly Hilton’s Oasis Court for In Style and Warner Brothers’ viewing and after-party had so many menu choices, it would have been hard to say no to everything. In Style’s director of creative development Cyd Wilson oversaw the event.
The small crowd of 150 guests at the viewing dinner—who watched a live feed of the ceremony taking place in the hotel’s International ballroom—dined on red pepper bisque; filet of beef with crushed peppercorns stuffed with borsin cheese and served with a cognac sauce; and roasted red potatoes and vegetables from the hotel’s catering staff.
After the show, some 1,350 revelers joined the dinner guests for the after-party, where offerings included endive spears with crabmeat,.phparagus, and prosciutto; smoked salmon with cream cheese canapés; and beef carpaccio on toast. And those were just the cold hors d’oeuvres. Hot snacks included coconut-crusted shrimp, lamb chops, vegetarian potstickers, and spinach and feta phyllo triangles, with 3,200 pieces of passed appetizers in all. Buffet tables were stocked with veggies, pork spare ribs, chicken sate, beef tenderloin, and egg rolls and 400 pounds of sushi. All-American dessert choices included 3,000 brownies, cookies, blondies, apple crumb cakes, and lemon squares. And as if guests had any room in their bellies after all that, sponsor Godiva set up a lounge featuring chocolate candies, chocolate martinis, and curvy chocolate sculptures.
Event designer Thomas Ford—who has worked on the party for seven years—transformed the venue into a chic party space inspired by the SoHo art world of the 1970’s and 80's. He constructed a giant blue tent embellished with red accents and splatter murals in blue, green, and red lit up from behind. From the sloping ceiling, he suspended nearly a dozen red chandeliers of varying sizes made of 2,400 hand-blown glass pieces shipped in individual crates from New Jersey’s Belle Mead Hot Glass. The light fixtures, which looked like sea creatures with red tentacles curling into space, were reminiscent of installations by Seattle glass artist Dale Chihuly. Clusters of red antheriums topped the curving bar, which separated the dance floor from the upper-level seating area lined with red banquettes. The 10-piece Cowling Band entertained guests with current and vintage disco, jazz, and pop music hits.
