The food truck craze has spread to Washington. Here are two new mobile restaurants that also cater events.
1. Launched on February 3, Sâuçá serves globally inspired street food around metro Washington. The menu includes toffles ($4.50), Belgian-style waffles with different toppings, soups ($4), salads ($5.50-$6.50), and sâuçás ($6.50-$7.50), griddled flatbread sandwiches with fillings such as beef shawarma, pork bánh mì, and Mumbai butter chicken. Sauces are a major component of the menu: 22 options include chimichurri, white miso, lone star barbecue sauce, tahini, and passion fruit mayo, all of which can be used for sâuçás. Event catering will be available in May; prices vary.
2. Launched in August, Rosslyn, Virginia-based District Taco is a food cart offering a straightforward menu with beverages and sides such as guacamole and pinto beans. Tacos, about $2 each, change daily and range from pollo asado to carnitas to breakfast tacos with eggs, chorizo, and cheese. The company will work with clients to customize menus for events throughout the metro Washington area. Catering prices include food and start at $500 for 40 people for three hours.
