* INCOMING *
1. FASHION WEEK RIVALS: The competition to gain sponsorships and designers between the main tents at Lincoln Center and M.A.C. & Milk (the downtown show site is changing its name to Made) is heating up. As Milk Studios is looking to play a bigger role in New York Fashion Week, the venue is launching a redesigned Web site (milkmade.com) to showcase the latest in fashion, music, art, and culture. WWD: "But there already are birthing pains in the venture between sponsors of the fashion week at Milk over the placement of their names and frayed nerves all around. Meanwhile, one informed source said executives at IMG are 'freaking out' that CAA has signed with Milk Studios to help it build its profile and attract sponsors. Milk versus Lincoln Center; IMG versus CAA: a battle Made for the fashion world." For subscribers only:

2. VENICE VENUE CHANGE: The plans to build the Palazzo del Cinema, the proposed site of the Venice Film Festival, which begins today, have been scrapped. Much of the building's funds were used to dig the hole and clear asbestos from the site. But organizers a back-to-the-future solution. The New York Times: "The interior of the existing Palazzo del Cinema has been restored, during which some striking original features were uncovered and conserved, and the rest of the decor refurbished in a retro style in keeping with the original 1930’s architecture. The auditorium has also been equipped with the latest technology. There are plans, too, to restructure the Sala Darsena, where press screenings are held, and to create two additional screens."

3. TUMBLR ATTRACTS BRANDS: The blogging platform reached 13.4 visitors in July, with most branded Tumblr blogs coming from the fashion industry, including labels like Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen, and Ann Taylor. Ad Age: "Fashion brands usually take advantage of Tumblr's strong visuals by posting looks from their latest collections or catalogs, while media outlets often post easily digestible pieces of content; think cartoons and short poems on The New Yorker's Tumblr and photos, quotes, charts and graphics on NPR's."
