Lilly Pulitzer's Tropical Tiki Party

September 24, 2003
There was fashion and fund-raising at a fashion show and party to present the scarf Lilly Pulitzer designed for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to raise breast cancer awareness. Held at the Bryant Park Grill, the swanky, tropical tiki-style party—inspired by the retro soirees at Pulitzer's own Palm Beach mansion—provided guests with a multicolored visual feast for the eyes.
More than 400 guests, including uptown society gals and fashion editors, took a break from the Fashion Week madness to view Lilly Pulitzer's whimsical spring 2004 collection in a tropical l950's-style setting. Event producer Mark Musters of Musters & Company, Pulitzer's Kate Kenny and Maryam Barrett of Fischer Barrett Communications dressed chaise lounges, hammocks and ottomans with fabrics from Pulitzer's new line. "Our decor inspiration comes from Lilly’s Palm Beach home, which is lovingly referred to as ‘The Jungle,’ complete with wild foliage, bright fabrics and a real tiki hut," Musters said. "We then set out to create a fun, lighthearted atmosphere where guests would feel at home, kick off their shoes and stay awhile." Derrick Roberts Productions added to the fun, sexy look of the place with soft pink and green lighting, and DJ Tom Finn played Latin-flavored tracks and retro dance tunes.

The grill's chic waitstaff—in custom-made Pulitzer bowties—served mixed rum drinks and dishes like pigs in a blanket, macaroni and cheese squares and Oreos, taking everyone back to the glory days of comfort food and big, classic cocktails.
