Twice every year, the fashion industry converges on New York for a swirl of fashion shows, store openings, after-parties and guerilla marketing. In many ways, Fashion Week is just like any other industry conference: There is plenty of mingling, and more and more over-the-top commercialism (this year the official Mercedes Benz Fashion Week tents even had Ortho Evra birth control patches as a sponsor). But the fashion industry takes aesthetics very seriously, so these events tend to have more stylish ideas for other event planners than, say, the Greater New York Dental Meeting. So of course we fanned out to bring back the best ideas, and a few lessons in what didn't work so well. Here's our report:
